He targeted children. Most of the guys doing hard time -have children- They must have figured he would have been ripped apart. Child killers/molesters are not liked in prison (as if anyone is)
This is awful. I can't even imagine anything happening like this. People are crazy, its too bad people have to die before someone realizes it.

He didn't get the death penalty because, when his crimes were comitted, Kansas had no capital punishment. It was later reinstated.

I, for one, think that spending the rest of one's life in prison is a thousand times worse penalty than being knocked off by lethal injection. I'm also uncomfortable with the death penalty because it can't be undone if the person turns out have actually not comitted the crime - one of the southern states just this week declared that a woman executed in the 50s (I think) was actually innocent.

**jumps on the auntie soapbox** agreeing 100% with dame&beast here... two hots aand a cot are too good for this man. My niece has been staying with us for the past month she is only 6 and is very hard to put to sleep, right now she is deathly afraid fo the boogie man needing auntie chrissy to check under the bed in the closet and lock the windows, she wakes up in the middle of the night needing another check.
when reading things like that, its so hard for me to tell her "it's ok huny there is no such thing as the boogey man, he wont hurt you" because in truth the real boogey men are out there and they do want to hurt our children, the only things we can do is try to keep our children safe, especialy in our own homes, and then men like this enter our homes........ it is really sickening........
*steps off soapbox*

My first post on these boards and it is because I actually know the answer to this one. He didn't get the death penalty because at the time he committed the murders the death penalty was not legal in Kansas. So, depite the fact that it is legal now, he isn't considered eligible because of the timing of the crimes.

I most definitely do not agree with this as he should be forced to die in a method that is as cruel and unusual as the methods he used on his victims.
